Voice Analysis
The vocal chords are innervated by a branch of the vagus nerve, the main peripheral nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system. It is responsible to orchestrate most healing and regenerative functions in the body.
The voice – as an indicator of the inner secrets of the vagus nerve – has been explored in various branches of science and Medicine. In 1990 I came upon the study ”voice analysis to predict the psychological or physical state of the speaker” in the Journal “Aviation, space and environmental medicine”. The voice of an astronaut in space can be analyzed simultaneously on earth to assess his/her physical and emotional issues.
In Medicine, acoustic voice analysis has been used since the 1960s to detect anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder, to assess the state of Parkinson patients, and more. Very little has been done to explore the non-linguistic communication of expression and emotion of the singing voice. In the late 90s I became aware of Sharry Edwards, who used what she called “BioAcoustic Vocal Profiling” to not only determine the emotional state of a patient. She developed ways of relating the missing or excessive frequencies, the “jitter” and “shimmer” and other delicate details in a normal voice recording to nutritional deficiencies, hormonal problems and other biochemical issues. We have adapted the available science to use A.R.T. to create a voice-based analytical system.Dr Dietrich Klinghardt
